Indigenous Literacy Foundation

CLEAA supports the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF).

CLEAA makes a donation to the ILF on behalf of all speakers, both webinar and conference, in lieu of payment.

The Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) is a national charity working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander remote Communities across Australia.   They are Community-led, responding to requests from remote Communities for culturally relevant books, including early learning board books, resources, and programs to support Communities to create and publish their stories in languages of their choice.

Only 36% of Indigenous Year 5 students in very remote areas are at or above national minimum reading standards, compared to 96% for non-Indigenous students in major cities, according to the 2018 National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). Many remote communities don’t have many, if any, books.

The ILF is dedicated to improving this.
