Merry Christmas from CLEAA

Strategic Planning and Your Association

One of the fundamental requirements of a representative association is to ensure, on a regular basis, that it is truly representing the needs and interests of its members.  The new CLEAA executive (a little more on that in a moment) is undertaking that process over the next month or so, and we’d like to hear from you.

At our AGM on 16 October 2015, we took the opportunity to begin a discussion about what members would like to see from CLEAA – our focus, our conferences, our role.  On 15 January 2016, the CLEAA executive will undertake a strategic review of the association, its objectives and purpose, and how we best represent our members.  We will communicate with you shortly after that meeting, seeking your support and input, as we undertake that work.  For example, we would like to know how you would like to hear from us (and how often), how we might best work with you on a local level, what is happening for you on a professional level: innovative programs, great TED talks, exciting thinkers.

A new Executive Committee was elected at the AGM.  Heather Hibberd, Catherine Kenny, Jonathan Seifman and I have continued on, Ronwyn North remains in the capacity of Immediate Past President, and I am delighted to welcome Carl White and Terri Mottershead to the executive.  They both bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, expertise and enthusiasm to the executive, and I am looking forward to working with them.

Acknowledgements and Congratulations

I’d like to extend a thank you to Chris D’Aeth, who served on our most recent executive committee.  A change of roles meant that he had to step down just before the conference, and I would like to acknowledge his contribution, particularly to our Sydney and Melbourne conferences.

I would also like to acknowledge Dick Edwards, an absolute stalwart of CLEAA, and a committed contributor to the executive, our conferences and various subcommittees over many years.  Dick did not stand for the executive committee because of imminent retirement plans.  It has been such a pleasure to work with Dick, and his actual retirement, whilst fabulous for him, will leave a big gap for us at CLEAA and for the lawyers of New Zealand.  Fortunately, he is continuing in his role as Newsletter Editor and convenor of our Membership Committee for now.

Conference Dates 2016

The CLEAA Conference has been locked in for 20 and 21 October 2016 will be in Adelaide.  The Conference Committee is currently being convened.  We’d love to hear any suggestions you have for topics or speakers.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, and a safe and relaxing break.  The end of CPD year will be on us before we know it. Thank you all for your membership, your support of CLEAA, and your input into the association.
